A family of four spends an average of Rp 1.5 million (US$106.50) per week while holidaying in Bali, according to a study by Bank Indonesia.
The central bank’s study, released over the weekend, said that the average spending was broken down into Rp 1 million for lodging, Rp 300,000 for food, Rp 100,000 for transportation and Rp 50,000 for shopping.
The study, which sampled 986 families in Bali, also showed that the majority of the respondents (53 percent) were spending less this year than they did in 2016.
Bank Indonesia said that the lower spending was due to the depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar, which has made holidaying in Bali more expensive for foreign tourists.
The central bank said that it expected the average spending by foreign tourists in Bali to decline further in 2018, to Rp 1.2 million per week.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, Mirza Adityaswara, said that the central bank was working with the government to develop a policy package to boost the tourism sector.
“The policy package will be announced next year and it will be aimed at accelerating the growth of the tourism sector,” he said.
