On August 5, 2018, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Indonesia, killing at least 14 people and injuring dozens. The quake hit the island of Lombok, just east of Bali, and was felt as far away as the capital Jakarta.
The quake struck at a depth of 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and was followed by two aftershocks of magnitude 5.4 and 5.5.
