The Indonesian rupiah (ISO 4217 code IDR) is the official currency of Indonesia. The currency is subdivided into 100 sen, although inflation has rendered all coins and banknotes valueless. The name rupiah is derived from the Indian word rupiya, ultimately from the Sanskrit rupya.
The rupiah is issued by the Bank of Indonesia. The older series of banknotes are no longer in use, with the exception of the 1000 rupiah note which is still in use.
