Bintan is an Indonesian island in the Riau Archipelago. It is located about 50 kilometres (31 miles) south of Singapore and about the same distance north of the island of Java. The island is separated from the main part of Riau province by the Singapore Strait.
Bintan has an area of 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles). The main town and administrative centre is Tanjung Pinang. Other towns on the island include Bandar Bintan Utara, Lagoi and Bintan Resorts.
