On Friday, September 28, 2018, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The quake struck at a depth of 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) and was felt as far away as the city of Makassar, on the island of Sulawesi.
A tsunami warning was issued soon after the earthquake struck, but it was later lifted. However, a number of buildings were destroyed in the quake, and at least 844 people were killed.
